There's nothing like the holidays to bring families together! One of my favorite parts about Thanksgiving is being with my family and continuing our traditions we have been celebrating since I was little. This extended family session I photographed over Thanksgiving weekend was the absolute sweetest (cracker bribes and all, haha)! It's always an honor for me to capture multiple generations at your session. Seeing the evolution of your family as it grows is such a treat. (And grandma will LOVE having photos with the grandkids, I pinky promise!) There's always magic when you look at how far you and your family have come and grown over the years. These photos are perfect for gifting! Keep scrol

This is My Business Story, Part 2: 365? Challenge Accepted - Round 1

PART TWO: 365? Challenge Accepted - Round 1 Confused? Read Part 1 of my business story here! November 6, 2009. I was outside taking pictures in the backyard at my parent’s house and took a few selfies in the garage. I talked myself up and said, “Yeah, I can do this… I think. I hope.” I edited and uploaded my first photo to Flickr titled 1/365. The rest, as they say, was history. *** The challenge itself was easy. Take a self-portrait every day for 365 days. The rest is up to you. I had an old semi-professional Minolta digital camera. It took me approximately a month to buy a tripod so I could stop balancing my camera on window sills, and a little bit later came a wireless remote to avoid the

South Park | Waupaca, WI | Lifestyle Engagement Photography | Rebecca & Michael

Rebecca and Michael are getting married at Becket's in Oshkosh in September. Their engagement session was so much fun! After we said hi in the parking lot, the first words out of their mouths were, "We don't know what we're doing..." I laughed and said, "That's okay, because I do!" And it's true. Your engagement session can be thought of in two different ways. You can hype it up in your head to be this big scary debacle where someone is chasing you around with a camera... Instead of going this route, I tell all my couples to think of it more like a date. You get to walk around a park and spend some quality time with your sweetie, AND you get cute pictures out of the deal! Plus engagement ses

This is my Business Story, Part 1: Let's Start at the Very Beginning

Not gonna lie, I have been thinking about writing this for years. I have been in love with photography since the tender age of fourteen. I was a freshman in high school, a baby really. I didn't know anything about the world yet. And this is my story. How I got started, the Flickr days, my 365 challenges, the studio days, taking a break, and everything in between. *I suggest reading this story with a cup of coffee. And now, without further ado... PART ONE: “Let’s start at the very beginning…” Let’s start at the very beginning. It is, after all, a very good place to start. I was fourteen, had literally started high school a few weeks earlier and simultaneously underwent the first very big trau

Currently: April | Behind the Scenes Celebrating turning 28 tomorrow! Wearing these awesome pants from She-In, plus rocking the quarantine messy bun. Surviving the 2020 Covid-19 Pandemic. Sending all my love and support to everyone out there fighting on the frontlines. Watching Grey's Anatomy... it's the perfect escapism factor right now. Listening to a lot of Tegan & Sara (also a side effect of watching Grey's, haha). Reading Jessica Simpson's memoir, Open Book. Rescheduling sessions, weddings, mini sessions... my heart is breaking for all of my clients, and my calendar is full of scribbles. Getting pretty deep on Instagram lately. Admiring spring! She finally decided to show up in Wisconsi

My Favorite Business Tool: A Love Letter to Flodesk | Wisconsin Lifestyle Photography

Dear Flodesk, How do I love thee? Let me count the ways... For those that don't know, Flodesk is a new email marketing service! I should preface this by saying this post is 100% not sponsored. I just love it so much and wanted to share the goodness with all of you! I am constantly inside my business Facebook groups pretty much shouting about how great Flodesk is. It has changed my life in more ways than one. First off: are you getting the exclusive party from me to you in your inbox every week? If you're not, you should definitely jump on it. When I started my email list last year, I had no idea what I was doing. Z-e-r-o. The only people on my list were me, my mom, and my best friend. I was

Waupaca, WI | At-Home Lifestyle Photography | Koehler Family

Funny story... When Robyn originally messaged me about doing some family photos, she told me, "I recognized Abby on your website. She worked for us over the summer!" SMALL WORLD, Y'ALL. Robyn and her husband, Ben, run Pine Lake Camp for Crossways Camping Ministries and live on their beautiful camp property just off the lake. We had just gotten a dusting of snow the day before their session so everything looked pretty and white with a few hints of autumn still peeking through. Their kiddo, Cedar Jo, was so funny. She got grumpy halfway through taking picture with daddy and needed a fruit snack break. At least she was nice enough to share with dad, haha! Grandma and grandpa came to drop off he

Top 5 Gifts for the New Mama | Wisconsin Family Photography

Top 5 Gifts for a New Mama Mother's Day is right around the corner! My mom came up for a quick visit in February and when we finally exchanged Christmas presents, I realized how much I love giving gifts to my favorite people on earth. So in my true gift giving love language fashion, today I'm sharing all of my favorite gifts to gift to a new mama (or your own mom!). 1. Candles I think it was Elise who wrote, "She may not have time to light this right now, but someday she will" in a blog post after she gave birth for the first time, and I've gotten all my mama friends a classic 3-wick candle from Bath & Body Works ever since then. The Vanilla Patchouli ones have been a big hit with all my fri
