How to Rock Your Family Session

If it's been a while since you've updated your family photos, I know gathering everyone up for a photo session can seem super daunting. But, I promise, it doesn't have to actually be as scary as you're hyping it up in your head to be! Here are my best tips and tricks to rock your family session, from what to wear and what to bring with you!

What to Wear: I tell all of my clients, first and foremost, you want to be comfortable in what you're wearing. Moms and dads: During our session, I will have you sitting, standing, running, walking, playing and having a good time with your family. Leggings/jeans or a maxi dresses are perfect for this! Try to coordinate your outfits rather than matching. I am totally here for you if have questions about what to wear for your session!

A quick note about Patterns: Definitely try to avoid logos and words on clothing. I suggest staying away from small graphics as they won't show up very well in your photos. Neutral colors tend to work best if you want a classic, traditional look... but I'm always down for a pop of color to make a statement!

Empty out your pockets: We don't want wallets, phones, keys, or lanyards showing up and looking awkward and clunky in your photos! The same goes for SUNGLASSES! Not on top of your head, please. Put them with your wallet, keys, and phone!

Snacks: I'm not above using a little snack bribe to get smiles! And it's hard to get genuine smiles when tummies are growling. Puffs, Cheerios, crackers, or fruit snacks make great smile bribes! Please, save any messy treats that may stain clothing for after our session.

Props: Great idea! Your child's favorite books, toys, lovies, trains, cars, dolls, that bubble wand they begged you for the last time you went to the zoo... You get the picture, right? They all make for great candid photos of them playing that you will be so happy you captured in the years to come!

Well-rested: Please consider your child's nap schedule when booking your session. Well-rested kiddos are happy kiddos!

Arrive early: When doing a session on-location, in a place your child has never been before, giving yourselves an extra 5-10 minutes to give you and your family a chance to explore a little and acclimate yourselves to our location will help your child feel more relaxed!

Most importantly: try and relax! Not one person who gets in front of my camera is a professional. I promise to guide you every step of the way! You'll feel like a pro though by the end of our session... and I promise you'll get a gallery of photos you will love for years and years to come!

Don't hesitate to reach out to your photographer, either. We're here for you!
