Hey guys! One of my New Year's Resolutions is to blog more in this space in 2019. On my last mentor call with Jenni Maroney (who an amazing newborn photographer & educator. Seriously check out her work!), she suggested that I create a vendor showcase, highlighting local wedding businesses near me. I loved the idea right away.
First up is the bridal shop just down the street from where I live! Victorian Bridal and Formalwear. Every time I drive by, I sneak a glance in their front window to see what beautiful dresses they have on display this week. (And if anyone wants to get married in the striped dress in their front window, HIT A GIRL UP!) Bailey and Christine are former employees of Victorian Bridal and purchased the business from its original owner in November 2018!
Name: Victorian Bridal and Formalwear
Established: 1992. We are new owners of the shop as of Nov. 1, 2018, but the store has been around since 1992
What does the average consultation look like?
A new bride will call to set up her appointment, and generally they are about 2 hours in length. Each bride works with her own bridal consultant, who focuses only on her for the duration of the appointment. The consultant will discuss with the bride style aspects of dresses, the vibe of her wedding, and of course the wedding date and venue. All this information helps the consultant choose dresses for the bride to try on. Next comes the best part! The bride and consultant go into the fitting room, and begin trying on dresses to show the entourage. Hopefully, the bride will find her perfect dress and then she will get measured for sizing, and place the order for her wedding gown! At Victorian Bridal, we want this process to be as easy and enjoyable for the bride as possible!
What is the starting price of your dresses?
On average, the starting price point of our bridal gowns is $900, with prices ranging up to $2200.

What inspired you to work in the wedding industry?
For both of us, working at Victorian Bridal started as a part-time job. Neither of us realized at that time how much we would grow to love the wedding industry, but after 9 years working at the store for me (Bailey) and 6 years for Christine, we wouldn't ever look back! I decided not to go to grad school as planned, and Christine began to learn seamstress techniques, and we both fell deeper in love with our jobs. Actually, neither of considered working in the wedding industry just a "job." When the previous owner was going to retire, the opportunity arose for us to buy the store, and even though the process was long and tiresome, it was so worth it! We absolutely love being the new owners, and can't wait to meet all our new brides!
One lesson you've learned the hard way in the wedding industry?
We don't know if we'd say we've learned this the hard way necessarily, but we, along with our staff, have had to remember that each bride has their own, unique vision. We need to support her in whatever she decides for her gown, her bridesmaids, colors etc. because we are HER advocate; as the bridal consultant, we must assist the bride with executing her vision, no matter what anyone else says. (We have seen some pretty firm moms, and opinionated bridesmaids!)
Best piece of advice for a new bride?
Our best advice for brides relates to what we said above: this is YOUR special day, and you deserve to have the wedding you love. Listen to your heart, and go with the gown YOU love, and the bridesmaids dress color YOU want most! While input from friends and family is awesome, if it's not what you truly feel, that's okay. You will regret not choosing what you had in mind for your wedding day.
Favorite 2019 bridal trends?
There are a few that we are loving! Especially the return of satin! We are seeing rich, beautiful satins in both bridal gowns and bridesmaids. Also, for bridal gowns, ballgowns and A-line skirts are back in a big way; more of the classic bridal look. Finally, bridesmaids colors that are trendy are greens from hunter to sage, and mauves and dusty rose.
Victorian Bridal also offers tuxedo rentals, and they have a gorgeous array of rainbow dresses (and a candy buffet!) for prom season.
